Associate Deputy Minister Michael Mills - Careers in the public service!

The University of Regina is set to host an engaging discussion with Michael Mills, Associate Deputy Minister with Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), as he shares insights into building a career in the federal public service. This special event, aimed at students interested in government careers, will provide a unique opportunity to learn from Mr. Mills’ extensive experience in the field.

Mr. Mills is the Deputy Minister Champion within the Federal Public Service for the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan. In this role, he seeks to strengthen the relationship between the public service and the universities, identifying shared priorities. The goal is to promote relevant research and build awareness of career opportunities in the public service.

Having grown up in Saskatchewan, Mr. Mills has a deep connection to the province. He has dedicated his career to the public service, working on diverse, high impact policy and administrative initiatives including Indigenous policy, fiscal relations, business development, infrastructure and procurement.

Since December 2023, he has served as Associate Deputy Minister at PSPC, following previous leadership roles within the department, including Associate Assistant Deputy Minister of both the Procurement and Real Property branches. Prior to his tenure at PSPC, he played a key role as Vice-President and Director at Public-Private Partnerships Canada.

Mr. Mills holds a Master of Arts in Economics from Queen’s University as well as a Bachelor of Arts in political science and economics from the University of Regina.

During the event, Mr. Mills will discuss his career trajectory, highlighting pivotal moments that shaped his professional journey. He will also provide practical advice on how students can prepare for a career in government, including developing networking strategies and navigating the hiring process. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a dialogue about the realities of working in the public sector.
