Our Career Services Coordinator is away from May 19-30, which means there will be no Career Counselling sessions offered and limited Career workshops. With this in mind, we've got some resources that can support you while Rhea is away.
NEW RESOURCE - Knowing Yourself:
There is a new resource in UR Path to help you build some self-knowledge and includes 3 free assessments on your values, strengths, and interests to get you there. The guide also has some questions about how to think through your results and reflect on what they might mean.

AI Prompt for Career Brainstorming
We know that one-on-one Career Counselling sessions are the most fruitful way to determine your career direction, but in lieu of this we have developed an AI prompt you can use to start brainstorming some possible career areas, the education/certifications required for each, and some short- and long-term plans tailored to you to help you get there. If you complete the assessments in the resource listed above, you can add those for an even more tailored report.
** An Important Note About the AI Prompt: **
This AI prompt is intended as a first step only—a tool to help you start thinking about career options when professional career counselling is temporarily unavailable. It is not a substitute for research-backed, peer-reviewed resources or the guidance of a trained Career Counsellor.
While it can support early brainstorming, meaningful career planning should always involve critical thinking, real-world exploration, and conversations with qualified professionals—like our Career Services Coordinator, who will be happy to support you one-on-one when services resume.
Prompt [Copy and paste the text below into your chosen AI model - starting with "I'm a university student..." and ending with "Please begin with your first question."]
I’m a university student exploring potential career pathways. I’d like you to act as a thoughtful and supportive career coach. Please ask me one question at a time, and wait for my answer before continuing.
Start by learning about my background, interests, values, education, and any work or volunteer experience I’ve had so far. Once you’ve gathered enough information, help me:
- Identify 3–5 possible career pathways that align with who I am and what I’ve done.
- Briefly describe each pathway (including typical tasks, work environments, and key skills).
- Recommend any credentials, certificates, or informal training that would make me more competitive.
- Suggest both related and unrelated work experience that would help me build relevant, transferable skills.
- Offer ideas for volunteering or extracurriculars that align with these careers and help me grow.
- Outline a few short-term (3–6 month) and long-term (1–3 year) steps I can take to move toward those careers.
Optional final question (you can skip this if you want):
Ask me about my values, strengths, and interests. I can either:
- Use the UR Path resource called Knowing Yourself: The First Step in Your Career & Life Direction to reflect on these; or
- Answer some general reflection questions you (ChatGPT) can ask me to help me discover them.
Please begin with your first question.
